Fall is the perfect time for decluttering, but have you ever thought about why? Because Fall decluttering leads naturally into Spring cleaning. If your home is already decluttered when Spring rolls around, the cleaning will be that much easier and more efficient. So take the time to declutter your home for Fall with the following organization tips. Your home will be ready for the holidays, too!
Fall is the time when swimsuits and sandals go away and jackets and coats come back out of hiding. It’s a good time to declutter your closets and entryway areas to make room for them. If you need extra space for all your Fall and winter gear, add a shelf with hooks (I love to use Command Hooks!) and you’re set!
Go through your chests of drawers and switch out warmer weather clothing for the cold weather stuff. Donate anything you don’t wear anymore or that the kids have grown out of. If you use seasonal sheets, such as Christmas flannels, go through the linen closet and put those front and center. Move the summer sheets to the back, and get rid of any that are worse for wear. The same goes for table linens.
Fall is also big for certain sports. If your family needs space to organize all that gear, add some baskets or bins in your mudroom to corral it all. And it goes without saying, time to look through the Spring sports equipment and dump what’s broken, plus donate the stuff you don’t need or use anymore.
Fall is a great time to declutter your attic and garage, because it is not so hot! Go through your summer supplies {like camping stuff} and get rid of anything broken or that goes unused. Make sure the holiday decorations are easily accessed and ready to go in a few short weeks. It’s a great time to throw out or donate the decorations you no longer use and make room for new acquisitions.
