12 Household Items You Should ALWAYS Have on Hand

May 15, 2018 by 101 Days... Leave a Comment

There are some basic essentials that every homeowner should keep in stock. It doesn’t matter if your home is an apartment, a townhouse, or the biggest mansion on the block–you need these basic items for a well-run household. Let’s talk about some of those items today. Here are 12 items you should always have on hand. If you do, you can feel prepared for most any situation!Safety Essentials

1. Perhaps the number one thing to have on hand is a first aid kit. And for that matter, you should always have one in your car, too!

2. In case of a power outage, which you know can occur at the most inopportune times, you should always have flashlights on hand. {Don’t forget to keep a supply of batteries too!}.  If you aim for one flashlight for each person in your household, you’ll be ready in case of emergency.

3. Talk to your local fire department, and they’ll tell you that every home must have a fire extinguisher close at hand. The best place to keep it is in the kitchen, since many home fires originate there.

4. I can tell you from first-hand experience that every home should always have a working carbon monoxide detector! It may in fact save your life. And it goes without saying, a smoke detector should also be in every quadrant of your home.

Practical Essentials

5. Every household should have a broom and dustpan on hand. If the dustpan clips onto the broom, that’s a definite bonus. You’ll always know where it is!

6. Nowadays the best cleaning cloths are microfiber. They can be used in any number of ways, and rewashed hundreds of times. Plus, they don’t cost much. This qualifies them as a household essential.

7. A good old-fashioned scrub brush will never go out of style, so you should always have one hand. For really tough cleaning jobs, you can’t beat the extra cleaning power you get from a scrub brush.

8. A good blender is a kitchen essential. It can help you with many cooking tasks, including grinding nuts and making soups.

9. You should always have a supply of basic cooking utensils on your kitchen counter. These include whisks, spatulas, and wooden spoons. They don’t need to be expensive or fancy, just sturdy and functional. This set is an Amazon’s Choice item.

10. Of course a set of sharp knives is a household essential. So for those times when your sharp set turns into a dull set, you should always have a good sharpener on hand. You can also use a sharpener to sharpen dull scissors.

11. You probably have at least two full-size cookie sheets. But half-sheet pans are extremely useful as well. You should always have at least one!

12. Finally, for any last-minute guests, you should keep a basket of toiletries on hand. This will help your guests feel that they are welcome!
