I hate to admit it, but I throw too much food away just because I didn’t remember to use it while it was still fresh. How about you? I thought if I found some great ideas for keeping food fresh for longer, it would help both of us. So here are the best 8 hacks that will keep your food fresher longer!

1.If you love avocado like I do, that’s a lot. But it’s a pain if you need just one half and try to save the other for later, because it doesn’t look too appetizing later on! According to Self, you should brush that avocado half with olive oil or lemon juice. No more brown avocado!

2. A Real Simple hack to keep your produce fresher for longer is not to wash it before you store it. Damp produce deteriorates faster!

3. One exception to the previous rule are berries. They will stay fresher and mold-free longer after a quick rinse in a vinegar and water solution.

4. If you buy milk in cardboard cartons, here’s a hack for you: it will stay fresher if stored in a glass bottle.

5. Do you enjoy making homemade bread? This hack is for you! Imitate a good old fashioned bread box {great for keeping those loaves fresh!} by wrapping your homemade loaves in a dry kitchen towel, and then placing it inside a brown paper bag. The towel and bag let the bread breathe, but still protects it from drying out.

6. I’ve always stored my fresh lemons on the counter. But according to Kitchn, I should be storing them in a plastic bag inside the fridge, where they’ll last up to a month. Much better than about a week on the counter!

7. Asparagus will last much longer if you store it standing up inside a jar. Cover the bottom third of the stems with cold water. Now cover the asparagus heads and the top of the jar with a plastic bag and place the whole thing in the refrigerator. It’ll keep for a week, maybe even longer.

8. Keeping tomatoes fresher longer is as simple as storing them with the stem end down on the counter. {Don’t keep them in the fridge–they don’t like the cold}. I do this, and it really works!
