So you’ve got a storage shed in your yard and need some shed organization tips? You’ve come to the right place! Shed Organization Tips

Of course, the first thing to do is to empty out that shed so you know what you’ve got. Get rid of any broken tools or junk you just don’t use. Once that’s done, you’re ready to start organizing!

Use wasted space

One of my favorite shed organization tips is to use the space in your shed that might otherwise be wasted space. The inside of the door is one example. Mount some hooks, or even some pegboard, to the inside of the door so you can hang larger tools or even the garden hose there.

Add shelves

Most sheds come with 4 walls and a roof, but no shelves. Add some open shelving to your shed so you can get the most out of the available space.

Leave a wall open for larger items

Don’t add shelves to every wall–you’ll want at least half of one wall available for the larger items in your shed. This includes things such as the lawn mower, trimmer and wheelbarrow.

Use overhead space

Think about the space in your shed that’s overhead–are you using it? That space up near the roofline is perfect for some small, open shelves where you can store small gardening supplies like pots, seeds, and plant tags.

Corral power cords

All the power cords in your shed are easily left underfoot and tangled if you don’t have a plan for easily storing them. Another of my favorite shed organization tips is to reserve half a wall to hang them. Use heavy duty storage hooks on the wall to hang all your power cords within easy reach.

Use storage bins to contain chemicals

Hazardous chemicals need special storage in your shed so they’re protected and kept from the wrong hands. Pack them together, tightly closed, in a large plastic storage bin with a secure lid. Stow the bin up high if you can, or consider storing it in your garage if it’s safer.

Hang small tools on a magnetic bar

Your small screwdrivers, hammers, and other hand tools are easy to store and locate if you hang them on a magnetic bar. Just mount the bar to a wall or underneath an open shelf.
