Epoxy resin products are handy for a lot of projects. They are great for the repair of household items such as vases or ceramics. What is it exactly? Epoxy resin is made of two materials which must be mixed together. At the instant you mix them together, a chemical reaction takes place. The epoxy resin then hardens to form an extremely strong bond. But what if the epoxy gets where you don’t want it? Here is how to clean epoxy resin off your tools.

How to clean epoxy resinIf epoxy resin does get on your tools, try to remove it before it completely hardens. This will make the job much easier and save you from having to grind away or sand the epoxy off later on.

When you glue items together and have some excess epoxy leaking out from the seam, it’s easiest to remove if you let it harden just a bit. Let it thicken to the point where it isn’t as runny, and clean up will be less messy. Hint: don’t wait too long, or the epoxy will be too hard. There’s definitely a fine line here!

Whether you’ve got excess epoxy on a project or on your tools, scrape away the unwanted epoxy with a putty knife or a thin piece of wood {a popsicle stick works well for this!}. Once you remove the excess, wet a rag with some solvent and use it to scrub away the remaining epoxy.

Recommended solvents for removal of epoxy resin include acetone and denatured alcohol. If the epoxy covers a large area of your tool, you may choose to soak the tool in a solvent. You will need to first pour some of the solvent into a covered container so you can avoid breathing the fumes while your tools soak.

Now that you know how to clean epoxy resin off your tools, find out how to organize your garden tools!
