Do you dread the thought of Old Man Winter and his first appearance? Instead of dreading him, why not welcome old man winter to your home–and enjoy him too? Old Man Winter can actually help bring the coziest, most contented time of year into your home. You just need to know what to do to enjoy him to the utmost!
8 Tips To Welcome Old Man Winter To Your Home {And Enjoy It Too!}
To really welcome Old Man Winter, be prepared and make any needed home repairs before he arrives. Then, you’ll be ready to cozy up!
1. Spend a little time outside every day
It may be the last thing you think you want to do in winter, especially if it’s extra cold and/or snowy, but it really is beneficial for your health and well-being! When there’s a sunny day, it’s especially important. The sun’s rays will give you a much-needed boost of vitamin D, and that’s good for your health and your mood.
2. Warm up with your favorite comfort foods
Winter is the best time to make and bake all your favorite comfort foods. They are called comfort foods for a reason. And since you don’t need to worry about heating up the house, it’s the best time for baking!
3. Invest in more family time
Even if you spend a little time outside every day, there’s still a lot of time spent indoors during the winter. Take advantage of the opportunity to connect with your family, friends and loved ones. Light a fire, pull out the games, and enjoy each other’s company.
4. Give a little
Winter in the U.S. happily coincides with the holidays, and that makes it prime time to give a little. Think about those less fortunate and make a little time for community service. Giving to others always makes me feel better!
5. Take up a yarn art
If you already know how to knit or crochet, dust off those needles and craft something warm and cuddly. If you don’t, invest in a class to learn how.
6. Light it up!
Welcome winter to your home with extra candles in your favorite scents. Enjoy an evening a week by candlelight just for the cozy ambience. It’s one of my favorite things about winter!
7. Read more books
I love to read, but summer is when I get the least amount of reading done because there’s so much to do outside. Winter is the best time to catch up on all that reading you want to do but didn’t get to over the summer.
8. Cozy up
When you read or catch up on your favorite shows, be sure to cozy up with a soft, chunky blanket. Don’t forget the fuzzy socks and a warm cup of hot cocoa or cider!
These are some of the best ways to welcome winter to your home–and enjoy it too! Which are you going to do first?
