All around your home, there are surprising places you never think to clean. Whether it’s because they’re “out of sight, out of mind,” or because you’re just unaware that they need it, you need to know about these 5 places you never think to clean. Check out this list, complete with a short description and the best way to clean each. You might be surprised!
Do you ever think to clean under the beds in your home? It’s notoriously one of those “out of sight, out of mind” spots. But don’t be fooled, because dust and stray items from around the house do mysteriously collect under there. The biggest and best reason to make sure you remove dust from under the beds is dust mites. Dust buildup attracts them, and you don’t want them anywhere near your sleeping quarters. If you’ve got hardwood floors, clean up is easy. Once a week, get under there with a microfiber sweeper. It’s magic at trapping and removing dust. If you’ve got carpet, a good weekly vacuuming does the trick!
The remote controls in your home are one of the places you never think to clean! Most of the time, we just mindlessly use them without even thinking about how dirty they might be. But when you dust around the room, bring along a sanitizing wipe. Use it to thoroughly clean all the surfaces of your remotes. And anytime anyone in the house is sick, do it extra!
That brings me to another surface in the family room that is another of the places you never think to clean. That would be the mounds of throw pillows on your couches, love seats, and sectionals. No, they don’t stay beautiful and germ-free for an indeterminate amount of time, much as we’d like to hope otherwise. You actually can clean your throw pillows without wrecking them. If the covers are removable, just toss them in the wash. If not, take the pillows to your local drycleaners for best results. It’s a good idea to do this at least every 6 months.
Is that bath fan sounding a little bit loud lately? It’s probably because you never think to clean it! They do get loaded up with dust. Like your furnace and air conditioning filters, that dust buildup inhibits the air flow and causes the motor to have to work much harder. So whenever you clean the bathroom, take the time to dust the bath fan. There are two quick ways to do this. Either use a can of compressed air to blow the dust out of the grill, or get the vacuum and use the attachments to remove the dust.
The washer cleans all your clothes. That means it can’t possibly be dirty, right? Wrong! The washer can actually be one of the dirtiest spots in the house, and by dirt I mean mold. Do you really want your clothes washed in a moldy washer? No one does! You can take care of it with one Affresh tab per month. Just run the machine with hot water, an Affresh tab, and no clothes. It’ll take care of the mold, the grime, and also help keep hard water deposits to a minimum so your machine can run its best.
Now there’s no reason to forget these 5 places you never think to clean anymore. Don’t you feel better already?

I’m a bit of a neat freak, but I also often forget to clean places that don’t seem dirty, like the clothes washer! That’s why I love articles like this (I just actually read another article similar to this today too!) that help me know how to make my house as clean as can be. Thanks for sharing! I’m off to make sure that under the bed is clean!
