There’s something about a flocked Christmas tree that is just extra beautiful! If you want a flocked tree this year, I’m here to show you how to flock a Christmas tree right at home. It’s really easy to do, and you’ll love the results!
What is Christmas tree flocking?
Flocking is a synthetic powder used to give a Christmas tree the look of snow indoors. It works on either a real or an artificial tree. Most flocking material is made of cellulose, which is non-toxic. Flocking is long-lasting and easy to apply.
Where to buy Christmas tree flocking?
The best place to pick up a bag or box of flocking is right over at Amazon–and you’ll get free shipping if you’re a Prime member. There is more than one brand, but I recommend Peak Seasons Sno-Bond. It’s adhesive and achieves a really beautiful result.
The Steps to Flock Your Christmas Tree
- Take your Christmas tree outside. Flocking is a bit messy, so avoid it by applying flocking outdoors.
- If your tree is artificial, you can assemble it first or apply the flocking in sections. It’s up to you!
- Working by small areas at a time, use a spray bottle to lightly wet the branches of the Christmas tree.
- While the branches are wet, use a stainless mesh strainer to apply the flocking powder to your tree. Pour flocking in the strainer, and shake it as you hold it over the tree to lightly “sift” the flocking over the wet branches.
- Keep applying until you have a desired amount of flocking. Some people like a light layer of flocking, while others prefer it thick.
- Once you achieve your desired level of flocking, use the spray bottle to mist the tree again. This activates the adhesives in the flocking.
- Allow the tree several hours for the flocking to dry. It should be hard when it is thoroughly dry.
- Now take your beautifully flocked tree inside and decorate it as usual! While you decorate, enjoy a home that smells like Christmas.
Flocking your own Christmas tree can be so fun! And you don’t have to stick to trees–try flocking wreaths and garlands too.
