Whether it’s your kids’ homework, papers from work, or personal financial records, paperwork can easily overtake your home and make things messy and unorganized. Fight the clutter by trying some of these great tips or getting your papers organized and keeping them that way!
- Get everyone onboard. It won’t matter if you come up with the best, most efficient way to organize your papers. If you can’t get everyone else in your home to agree to the idea, then it won’t matter. So, talk with your spouse and your kids, see what ideas they have, and then come up with a plan together on how to fight the paperwork monster.
2. Use colored filing folders and tabs to keep things organized. The colors will help you be able to identify quickly where things belong, and it can also get your young kids involved in organizing if they can’t read yet. The files also allow you to move things around and change your system when necessary.
3. Whatever approach you decide to take, make sure you buy good material. You don’t want to try and save a little bit of money up front, just to have your whole filing system fall apart down the road because of low quality products. So, whether it’s a filing cabinet or a stacking shelf, get one that’s good quality and will last for as long as you need it to.
4. When you start organizing your paperwork, make sure all the most important stuff is stored away and all the most frequently used things are easy to access. Consider investing in a safe or similar product to store away your birth certificates, social security information, etc. For things like bills, credit card transactions, and other often used things, keep them at the front of your storage space. If not, you’ll lose energy and everything will get messy again.
