Here at 101 Days, we certainly love our pets! But we don’t necessarily love all that pet hair that sticks like glue to everything it lands on. Especially clothes, furniture, and even the curtains! So today’s post is all about pet hair, and easy ways to remove it from everywhere in your home, including the fabrics and flooring. After you read this post, bid goodbye to the pet hair in your home. It’ll never have a foothold again!
First off, how do you get the pet hair off the furniture? Because even if you don’t let Fido set foot on the couch, the hair seems to cover it with reckless abandon. I used to watch the fur accumulate for a few days, until I couldn’t stand it anymore. Then I’d drag out the vacuum. But there is an easier way! Try one of these:
- Pull on a pair of rubber gloves, the kind you wash dishes with. {Make sure they’re dry!} Just run a gloved hand over the furniture surface, and watch the pet hair pull away in clumps. It works because the rubber creates tension with the furniture surface, and that tension releases the hold of the pet hair.
- Use a dry kitchen sponge. Rub it over the surface of the couch or chair, and the pet hair clings to it like magic.
- To make a DIY lint roller, wrap your hand in shipping tape, with the sticky side out. Use your sticky hand to pick the pet hair up off the furniture, your clothes, or even the curtains.
For quick removal of pet hair from your clothes, keep a lint roller handy by the door. That way, you can quickly run it over your clothes right before you leave each day.
To help release pet hair from carpeting, use a pumice stone. Rub it over areas where your pets like to lay down. This will loosen a lot of it, then you can vacuum the rest.
On hardwood or other bare floors, use a microfiber dry mop. Pet hair clings to it, whereas the vacuum tends to blow it around.
Finally, to help cut down on the amount of fur your pets shed, brush them outside twice per week. In between brushings, try running a dryer sheet over their fur to pick up loose hairs before they make the jump to your clothes or furniture.
