Even if you don’t use nail polish, after you read this article you might consider keeping a bottle of nail polish remover around. It is useful as a solvent in several other ways that you may not have thought of! Keep reading to see the things you can clean with the remover.

  • You can use nail polish remover to loosen and remove super glue from places where you don’t want it, especially your fingers. Just soak the stuck fingers in some remover until the super glue loosens.
  • Ink stains on clothes from ink that is not water soluble will not come out with soap and water. So, nail polish remover to the rescue! Wet a cotton ball with the remover and use it to soak and dab at the offending ink stain. Once the ink stains have been removed, you can wash the item with soap and water. I advise testing your garment for colorfastness in an inconspicuous area before you use the remover on it.
  • Have you ever had an annoying price sticker stuck on a glass item you purchased? Just soak a cotton ball with nail polish remover, and hold it against the price sticker until it loosens easily from the glass. It’s much easier than trying to scrape it off!
  • You can also remove stickers from metal surfaces by applying nail polish remover to dissolve the glue and peel away the sticker.
  • Have you ever had a plastic bread bag or Ziploc bag melt against the hot stove or toaster? That’s a tough mess to clean, but nail polish remover will handle it. Dampen a soft cloth with the remover and rub the melted plastic until it comes off.
  • The next time you’re painting windows and inadvertently get paint on the glass, just use nail polish remover on a cotton ball to remove it.
