I don’t know about you, but my bedroom closet is one area that has to be continually re-organized. It just seems to gradually get out of control after every cleaning. What if there were some hacks that could help us all better organize our closets, and then keep them that way? Well, there are! I’ve waded through the information to find 10 of the best bedroom closet organization ideas to help you and me. Get ready for better closet organization!

  1. The first thing to do before organizing your bedroom closet is to declutter. You don’t want to spend time organizing clothes and shoes you don’t even wear! But are you aware of all the things you don’t actually wear? Here’s a hack for that: turn all the hangers in your closet the wrong way, with the hook facing you. When you wear something, turn the hanger the right way. After 6 months, any hangers left facing the wrong way signal an item you haven’t worn. Time to put those items in a donation bag!
  2. As a general rule for bedroom closet organization, store your most-used items at eye level. They should be the things you see when you first open your closet. Less-used items go below, and the least-used clothing and shoes are stored at the top.
  3. Always use hangers for things like dresses, skirts, blouses and suits. Drawers are for the item that can be folded. Baskets or bins are incredibly handy for all the odds and ends, such as belts and scarves.
  4. Plastic tubular hangers are available in many colors. Use them to color code your closet–pink for hers, blue for his, white for dress shirts, red for suits, etc.
  5. An umbrella stand is the perfect organizer for yoga mats and other exercise accessories you may keep in your bedroom closet!
  6. Folded clothes that don’t have a designated drawer can be stored on a shelf. To help keep those things neater, use a shelf space divider like this one from Amazon.
  7. This might seem like a no-brainer, but if you don’t have a light in your closet, you’ll be amazed at the difference it can make. Add one so that you can actually see everything you’re organizing! A simple stick-on LED light makes a huge difference but is incredibly easy to install.
  8. Keep a laundry basket in the bottom of your closet for dirty laundry. When it’s full, just carry it all to the laundry room.
  9. If you treat your closet like a small room or extension of your bedroom, you are more likely to keep it up. Hang pretty wallpaper to brighten it up.
  10. Make more room in your closet by storing your out-of-season clothing in boxes underneath your bed, or up high on shelves.
