A shiny glass cooktop is a beautiful thing, so you almost hate to mess it up, right? Well, I’m here to help you with some tips to clean your glass cooktop, and quickly, because no one wants to spend hours on that job!
The first and best tip for keeping your glass cooktop looking like new is not to put off wiping up spills and splatters. The longer they sit and the more times they are reheated, the harder it will be to clean. Make it a point to clean them up immediately, and after the cooktop cools you can make sure any spills are completely cleaned up for the next time you cook.
Specialty cleaners made just for your glass cooktop are definitely worth having in your cleaning arsenal. They are soft, creamy cleansers that won’t scratch your cooktop, lessen its life or compromise your warranty. Use a small amount and spread it over the cooktop. As it sits it will change consistency from milky-white to dry. Once dry, wipe it up with a soft wet cloth, then polish with another soft dry cloth. Your glass cooktop should then feel smooth to your touch. If not, repeat the steps to clean it more thoroughly.
You CAN use a scraper made specifically for a glass cooktop without scratching it. Follow the manufacturer’s directions, and be sure not to use the corners, only the scraper edge. It is made for sticky, greasy, hard-to-lift gunk.
Even though you should be sure to have a glass cooktop cleanser on hand, sometimes there are immediate solutions to stubborn stains just lurking in your kitchen pantry. An example is an acidic liquid such as lemon juice, or white vinegar. Combined with baking soda and a soft, wet cloth, they can work wonders. Note: Be sure to always wait until your cooktop is completely cool before cleaning, no matter which cleanser you use!
With just a few minutes of frequent care and attention, your glass cooktop will be remain beautiful and shiny for a long time to come.
