There are new cleaning tips of one kind or another that pop up on the internet almost daily. But how many of them actually work? {Not all, I’m afraid}. To help you get through the clutter of internet cleaning tips, I have five that actually do work. Read on for some cleaning tips you can trust!
1. One of my personal favorites is to clean and deodorize your microwave with lemon juice. Pour 1/2 cup of lemon juice into a small bowl and add about 1/4 cup of water. Place the bowl in the microwave and turn it on high for 3 minutes. When the microwave stops, do not open it. Instead, allow the bowl of lemon juice to sit in there for another 5 minutes before you open it. After 5 minutes, open the microwave and use a soft cloth to wipe out all the steam–and with it, the dirty gunk! You now have a clean, fresh smelling microwave. This even works wonders for stinky smells like burned popcorn.
2. For yucky oven burners and stove top grates, use ammonia and let its fumes do the tough scrubbing for you. Place the dirty pieces into a garbage bag and add just a tablespoon or two of ammonia. Now seal the bag. {If you have a good place to put it outside, I recommend it}. Let it sit overnight and then open it up and use a wet cloth to wipe the burners and grates clean.
3. Lemons and ice will freshen, deodorize and sharpen the blades of your garbage disposal. So why not combine the two? Cut up some lemons and freeze them with vinegar in an ice cube tray. When frozen, use the lemon-vinegar cubes anytime your disposal needs some freshening up.
4. Use a cut lemon to shine up your stainless steel sink. Sprinkle the sink with baking soda, then use half a lemon, cut side down, to scrub with. It works and leaves a great scent behind too! Other citrus, such as a grapefruit or lime also work well. For extra scrubbing power on tough stains, sprinkle the cut citrus with salt.
5. Dish soap will get grease stains out of your clothes, just like it does on dishes. Pre-soak any grease stains with dishwashing liquid and rub it in well. Now just toss it into the wash and launder as usual.
