An important step to take care of a pet stain is to neutralize the odor. Even if you think there isn’t much odor, if there is any left behind your pet will smell it and it will encourage him to go there again at a later time. An enzymatic spray made for this purpose is best at breaking down and neutralizing any odors. First Home Love Life has a simple solution using only water, mouthwash, and newspaper. Check it out!
Our favorite homemade pet stain cleaner involves two simple household ingredients: baking soda and vinegar. Once you have cleaned up any solid residues, generously sprinkle baking soda over the stain. {The double whammy is that the baking soda will also absorb odors}. Now pour white distilled vinegar into a spray bottle, and spray the vinegar over the surface of the baking soda to moisten it. You’ll see the baking soda and vinegar start to bubble over the stain. Let this mixture sit on the stain for 5 minutes. Now use a clean cloth to blot up the mixture and rub the carpet dry. For further odor removal, sprinkle baking soda over the dry carpet, let it sit for awhile, and then vacuum.
