Lots of people think that cleaning should happen in sporadic bursts, with the mess building up in between each one. However, that’s not the best way to keep your house clean. In order to have a neat and organized house, there are some things you should do every day to make that happen. Here are just a few of them!
Right when you get up, make your bed! This may seem unnecessary and silly, but making your bed can get you started off on the right foot. If you don’t do anything else for the rest of the day, you’ll know you’ve at least done one productive thing! This also makes the rest of your bedroom look clean, even without doing anything else.
Make sure you put things away right away when you’re done with them. That means anything from craft supplies to cooking utensils. This will keep the clutter to a minimum and also help you stay more organized and on top of where your things are at.
Get in the habit of putting a load of laundry in at the beginning of the day. Depending on how many people are in your family, you might have to do this every day. But if you put in a load of laundry before your morning routine, by the time you’re finished, you’ll have a clean batch of clothes!
Whenever the dishwasher finishes it cycle, put the dishes away as soon as you can. This does two things. First, it keeps your dishes clean and organized. Secondly, it means there’s no excuse to put dirty dishes in the sink and let them pile up. Instead, put them directly into the dishwasher to avoid a mess.
We all make mistakes and messes, but the key is cleaning them up when they happen. Don’t let spills sit for a long time, telling yourself “I’ll clean that up some time soon.” Instead, take a few minutes right away and take care of the spill immediately. This will save a lot of time down the road and keeps your house clean.
For ten or fifteen minutes at night before you go to bed, round up your whole family and tidy up the house for a bit. You don’t need to break out the vacuum and mop, but just put things back in place and make sure things look good. You’ll feel great when you go to bed and you’ll be happy when you wake up to an organized home!
One of the best ways to keep your house clean is by stopping the mess before it even happens. So, whenever you come inside, make sure to take off your shoes. That way, dirt and mud won’t get tracked inside, but it’ll stay outside!

I do like your tips. Keeping the house clean is really about addressing messes before they get big. My dad was a stickler about this, probably because he was military and raised in a military house. In any case, he made sure that we always picked up after we were done with anything. To this day, my parent’s house is one of the cleanest houses I have been in, but my parents never seem to spend too long cleaning. My house, on the other hand, tends to get messy enough that I think it will take professional cleaners to make it look respectable again.

This is definitely a great list of things we should all strive to accomplish. By doing these 7 things you can reduce most of the mess that normally find in a home. Truly clean homes come from a commitment by the occupants to clean up as they make a mess so the house stays clean. This will not not stop the gradual build up of dirt and grease that occurs in all most all homes. But if the compounding of the messes is not added to it then the cleaning should be swift and easy when it comes time to get it done.

I am seriously in love with your blog. I’ve been cleaning houses since I was 10 years old, my mom had no choice but to bring us with her as she cleaned her clients homes…so naturally I got obsessed with cleaning and organizing and ended up taking over her cleaning business in Hawaii, anyhow, I just wanted to say I love this post, people ofter wonder how I keep my house clean, even though I clean all day, have 3 kids and a husband…well you let my secret out of the bag, I clean as I go, even when I don’t want to, AND I’ve taught all my kids to do the same!

I think that my biggest problem is that I don’t pace myself. I realize that the house needs to be cleaned, and I want to do it all at once. I end up hurting my back and my knees in the process. I’m going to have to follow these tips from now on

Totally agree. Some of my family think I am going a bit OTT, but
1) I try to do any drying/ironing/folding/putting away on the same day I wash. That way I keep the work to a minimum. Touch it once… If it lies in a heap, it needs more work to fix it.
2) I try to keep the surfaces clear. Kitchen, lounge, bedrooms etc. That way, it is so easy to wipe them down.
3) I clear up as I go. Cook/bake, fill dishwasher, clear all surfaces…..
Years ago, when the children were small, I worked full-time and I had a cleaner once a week, everyone laughed at me because the night before the cleaner came, I made everyone clear up. All toys away, clothes tidied, floors cleared etc. My rationale was, if the house is not clear, then the cleaner won’t be able to clean. It worked, and enforced a routine. So even if you aren’t lucky enough to have a cleaner, make one evening ‘clear-up night’, and then get everyone to take a turn doing a chore. Young children can put away their toys, dust, use the vacuum. Older ones, clean the kitchen, bathroom. Their future partners will love you for instilling good behaviours!
