Small appliances are some of the most helpful things we own and use. They perform a myriad of tasks for us, and if we care for them they should last a long time. Part of caring for small appliances is keeping them clean. Stick around to see how to clean a variety of small appliances.
- To clean a coffee or spice grinder, grind a piece of soft white bread. The pieces of bread will pick up residual coffee and spices in the grinder. For extra freshening, grind a tablespoon full of baking soda. Thoroughly wipe out the grinder.
- Everything but the base of a food processor can go through the dishwasher, which is the best way to clean the blades. Wipe down the base with a damp cloth, and you can use a little dish soap on extra dirty spots or stains.
- For an electric stand mixer {such as this Kitchenaid you can purchase at Amazon}, it’s important to wipe it down after every use. The bowl can go through your dishwasher, but the paddle is best washed by hand.
- Periodically empty the crumb tray of your toaster, and then wipe it down with a damp cloth. Use a little dish soap as needed.
- A non-stick waffle iron cannot be washed with soap and water, or else the seasoning of the non-stick surface can be ruined. The best way to clean the surface is to wipe it out with a paper towel while the waffle iron is still warm, but not hot enough to burn you. Spritz the surface with a little cooking oil and wipe it over the cooking surface to protect the seasoning.
- For easy cleaning of your blender, pour warm water, a little baking soda and a drop of dish soap into the blender jar. Run the blender for a minute or two and then rinse thoroughly. Wipe down the base with a damp cloth, but do not submerge it in water.
