Today’s organization post focuses on our living rooms. Specifically, how can we better utilize the space? Sometimes the sheer amount of items that need to be in a living room is overwhelming. I’ve found 10 ways to declutter and organize a living room to help you get the most out of the space. These decluttering and organizing ideas show how to keep control of the clutter and really live in the living room!
- Get more out of the bookshelf by using it for more than just books. Boxes, baskets and bins help cleverly store and disguise a lot of items that would look cluttered otherwise. Buy some inexpensive fabric basket options at Dollar Tree!
- Utilize smart furniture options that also provide storage, such as a coffee table that has basket storage underneath.
- Subdivide your pretty baskets by using several clear plastic storage bins inside. From the outside, no one knows how many things you actually store inside.
- Create a clever desk space by spanning two bookcases with a fabric-and-glass-covered top. You can store a lot of essentials in the side shelves this creates!
- Wire baskets are a great option for a living room, because they give a vintage vibe everyone loves. And if you don’t like the color, just spray paint them to match your living room’s color scheme!
- Decorative trays provide a lot of organization options for a living room. Use them on your coffee table or ottoman to organize the magazines you want to read, the entertainment system remotes, and other essentials.
- Make decluttering part of your weekly routine. Grab a basket or bin, and walk around the room. Anything that is out of place goes in the bin to be moved to the place it belongs.
- Go through each area of your living room and return items to their proper place. This can be as simple as returning books to the bookshelf and remotes to the tray.
- Look at your magazine collection. Any magazines that you haven’t read in a month automatically go to the recycling bin.
- Do you keep blankets in your living room? Make it a daily habit to fold them and return them to their proper spot, whether it’s in a storage basket or draped over the arm of the sofa.
