Febreeze is a great thing to use for freshening up fabrics around the house, including the sectional and throw pillows your family lounges on daily. But are you aware of how many chemicals are in a bottle of Febreeze? The short answer is a lot. If you are interested in using less chemicals in your home, you need to know how you can make your own Febreeze instead of buying it. Ready? Here we go!

Never buy expensive air freshener sprays again! It's easy to make your own natural Febreze air freshener with these 3 simple ingredients--any scent you like.

As you can see in the picture above, the main ingredients in homemade Febreeze are baking soda and essential oils. Add distilled water, and that’s it. No harmful chemicals of any kind. You can actually feel good about using this mixture on the fabrics your family comes into contact with every day.

Add 10 drops of essential oil {a single oil or a combination of two or three} to 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Use a spoon to mix the oils with the baking soda, pushing the drops into the soda and thoroughly combining the two. The reason for this is because the baking soda helps to keep the essential oils evenly dispersed throughout the distilled water instead of just floating on top.

Once the baking soda and oils are combined, put the baking soda mixture into a 16 ounce spray bottle. Add two cups of distilled water, and shake well to dissolve the baking soda.

**Before each use, shake the bottle to make sure the contents are equally distributed.

Brown Thumb Mama recommends some scent combinations to try in your homemade Febreeze. They include:

5 drops of peppermint and 5 drops of wild orange for an energizing scent

5 drops wild orange, 3 drops ginger, 3 drops ylang ylang for a tropical scent

3 drops Balance, 3 drops Citrus Bliss, 3 drops Forgive for a floral scent
