Cleaning your home doesn’t have to be drudgery, especially when there are some clever hacks out there that will change up your cleaning routine forever. Seriously, check out these top 10 cleaning hacks and see if they won’t make your life so much easier!
1.Use your vacuum for more than just floors and upholstery. Use your attachments to pick up dust and crumbs that have a way of accumulating inside your kitchen cabinets. Grab your vacuum the next time you have a flour, salt or sugar spill. It’s genius!
2. I totally do this, and it works wonderfully. Clean the glass pieces from light fixtures, such as pendants and domes, in your dishwasher! You’ll never go back to washing them by hand.
3. Ceiling fans are tricky, because even a microfiber duster will push some of the dust off onto your furniture and floors. Well, here’s a hack you can use. Put a pillowcase over each blade and use the inside of it to pull the dust off the blades in into the pillowcase. No more dust balls falling everywhere!
4. Pillowcases work great for ceiling fans, and socks work great for window blinds. Slide your hand into an old sock, and then run your fingers over each slat, dusting both sides at once.
5. You can spot clean fabrics with baby wipes! They have gentle cleaning agents without too much moisture, so they dry quickly.
6. Here’s one I never thought of: let the kids jump on your bed {for once} to bring up dust and dirt from inside the mattress, then vacuum it up with your upholstery attachment. What a great idea!
7. Use rubbing alcohol to remove stains from microfiber furniture. Just spray it on with a spray bottle and use a white cloth or sponge to blot it up. Use a stiff brush to fluff up the fibers once it’s dry.
8. Sanitize your kitchen sponges weekly by wetting them and then putting them in the microwave. It only takes 2 minutes on high to kill 99% of the nasty microbes that could be living in there. Your family will stay healthier!
9. Who would have thought to fight oil with oil? I admit I never have, until now. Over at One Good Thing By Jillee, she shows you how to conquer that greasy kitchen grime with mineral oil and a paper towel. I’m adding mineral oil to my shopping list right now.
10. This one really will make your life easier: pretreat your stovetop with wax. {You read that right!} According to Real Simple, just rub a thin layer of car wax over your freshly cleaned stovetop, and future spills will wipe right up.
