How to get soft towels is not that difficult. There’s nothing worse than an old towel that is rough and scratchy. Let me show you how easy it is.
When you step out of the warm shower, the last thing you want to do is dry off with a stiff or rough feeling towel! If you’ve been stepping into towels that feel almost like sandpaper on your skin, then you need these tried-and-true tips for getting the softest towels yet. Keep reading to see what you might be doing wrong, and what you can most certainly do right!
How To Get Soft Towels
The biggest mistake people make when washing their towels is using too much detergent. You might think you need more than you really do, so if your towels are rough, try cutting back. Excess detergent builds up within the fibers of your towels, and that makes them stiff. So use a little less than you think you need.
Another tip for getting softer towels is to wash all your towels together, with no other clothing items. You really will use less water and save on energy costs, plus you will avoid having lint build up on the rest of your clothes.
When you do wash your towels, use hot water. The reason? Hot water helps the detergent dissolve thoroughly so it doesn’t build up on the towels. And it doesn’t hurt to make sure they are getting really clean of dirt, sweat and bacteria that towels tend to harbor.
With Vinegar
The number one way to get softer towels is NOT with fabric softener, believe it or not! The number one way to softer towels is to add one cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle. This helps fight detergent build-up, plus it also fights hard water deposits and minerals from building up and roughing up the towel fibers. {And it doesn’t leave a scent behind}. So skip the fabric softener and buy vinegar instead: you’ll save a lot of money!

I’m sure you can put the vinegar in where you would put bleach or fabric softener. You should be able to just put the vinegar in and then run the washer!

I use vinegar in the fabric softener slot and my towels have never been so nice, it takes a few washes to get rid of all that soap build up, in fact I use it in all my laundry loads.
